Ceviche
The Spaniard and I didn’t really hang out much. He was a huge football fan, and spent most of his time in front of the TV in the hostel watching games of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. If there were no games on, he would watch the analysis of the games. If those were not on, he would watch the analysis of the analyses.
Me, on the other hand, just wanted to be out and about. I spent all day walking around Santa Marta and for lunch I had my regular arroz con pollo.
In the evening, though, the Spaniard did take me to have ceviche at a place not too far from the hostel. He said it was the best ceviche he had ever had. I had not even heard of ceviche, let alone tried one, so I was keen on finding out what it was. It turned out to be a seafood-based dish, which was apparently the national dish of Peru. The ceviche we had was actually really good and I had two portions after which I was stuffed.
